3 CONT To the glory of God and in loving memory of Arthur Richard Fitzherbert,
3 CONT son of Lt Col Richard Fitzherbert (Rifle Brigade) of Somersal Herbert, Derbyshire.
3 CONT At the age of 62 he heard the call and volunteered as a trooper in the N.Z.E.F. He
3 CONT served in Egypt and Palestine and laid down his life on 27th March 1917 fighting heroically
3 CONT against the Turk by the Gate of Gaza. His body rests nearby at Deir el Belah. His was a
3 CONT rare spirit, cheerful in adversity, faithful under temptation, of incomparable courage,
3 CONT beloved by friends and honoured by all. Though far away the shattered body fill a desert
3 CONT grave the spirit still lives in sure hope of the great reunion.
