1 CONT Raymond lived in Childers, before they were married. He had a
1 CONT carrying business carting milk and cream to the factory, potatoes,
1 CONT etc, to the Rail Head at Thorpdale. Raymond was more to the town of
1 CONT Childers than just the `Chap on the milk run' or Man Friday' for,
1 CONT tucked into the lid of each can would be a note to be delivered to
1 CONT the store for items such as stockings, bread or items of
1 CONT haberdashery, letters to post or even meat. Raymond was a driver
1 CONT with the 14th Battalion and was taken aboard the ship `Nestor" to go
1 CONT on active duty overseas. He was killed in action at Fontein, France,
1 CONT and never got to see his last child as she hadn't been born before
1 CONT he left.
