1 CONT In England the MARSHALL family were a Locomotive Engineering firm,
1 CONT of Birmingham, England, producing the Marshall Traction Engines. One
1 CONT of the sons, David's father, had come to the colony, settling in
1 CONT Hobart, where he had a brewery business, but later he bought a
1 CONT farming property at Hazelwood, in Victoria. Coming from an
1 CONT engineering family, he was one of the first to own a Steam
1 CONT Separator. David, his son, gained a Steam Engine Certificate. When
1 CONT all of the neighbouring farmers wanted their milk separated,
1 CONT `Roseneath' butter was made on the Marshall farm at Hazelwood. Pre
1 CONT 1900 many prizes were won for their produce at the Melbourne and
1 CONT other country shows. When David and Lucinda married, they lived for
1 CONT several years at the Gippsland town of Childers. They then moved to
1 CONT Ellinbank where they bought a farm property a quarter of a mile from
1 CONT the Ellinbank school.
