1 CONT Liz was quite the reverse to Albert. She directed operations from
1 CONT her lofty height, often in her dressing gown, with a mug of tea in
1 CONT one and gesticulating with the other. A big woman, a big voice and a
1 CONT great heart. Though the drivers hated taking orders from a woman,
1 CONT they did respect her for her unending kindness and her industry in
1 CONT the things that effected the town, eg: the way she ran the
1 CONT Methodist Sunday School and, in wartime how she cajoled, ordered and
1 CONT even resorted to tears in her demand for more petrol to the
1 CONT department during those times of rationing. Often the extra was
1 CONT given to some young man on leave so that he might enjoy his visit,
1 CONT or to some worthwhile cause. People could always get help from Liz
1 CONT and Albert.
