was Bishop of Exeter 1478-87;
joined in the Duke of Buckingham's unsuccessful plot against Richard III 1484
and fled into exile with his cousins Walter and Edward Courtenay (husb of his
niece, later Earl of Devon); was one of the magnates who invited the Earl of
Richmond to seize the Crown of England as Henry VII and accompanied him
when he landed in 1485; Lord Privy Seal 1485-87
