Nb. In a number of the 'Massachusetts Gazette' for Jan 1767, may be found the following
obituary notice from 'The Gazette' of Dominica, W.I. Charlottetown, Oct 1766. "Last night
about 11 o'clock died here, Peter Chardon, Esq., barrister-at-law. It is hard to say
whether a thorough knowledge of his profession or the unblemished integrity and honour
with which he acted was the greatest. In him were joined the finished scholar and the
complete gentleman, an he is not only universally lamented as such, but as a real lose
to the colony." (Ms. of Mr. W.G.Brooks, New England Historical & Genealogical Register,
Vol 8. p 258.)

SourceNb. Peter Chardon was the son of an eminent of Boston merchant, belonging to one of the
French protestant families which had taken refuge in America after the revocation
of the Edict of Nantes. The family residence was on Bowdin Sq., on the spot where
the Baptist Church now stands (1937) at the corner of Chardon St.
