1 CONT AN ACCOUNT FROM THOMAS's SON, LEOPOLD (LEO):
1 CONT It was after the First World War that the RODDA boys got together to
1 CONT try to extra, to pay for their farms by road-making. The first
1 CONT project was the grading of McDONALD's Track after the long winter
1 CONT months had churned the unmade road into a quagmire, heavy going for
1 CONT anyone using the road. With a team of four horses and a grader made
1 CONT of great wooden planks, at springtime for several years Tom and his
1 CONT brothers set the carriage way to rights,
1 CONT working their farms with the aid of wives and young families. The
1 CONT second project was working on the Thorpdale South road, using huge
1 CONT hammers to break up the boulders that had originally been used as a
1 CONT base. The original sized hammer is still held at the home of Tom's
1 CONT son, Leopold. A third project was down to Yarragon where they formed
1 CONT the Hazelton Road - then the Maffra road from Bellbird Corner.
