Mary Alleyne in the Parish of St. James, Barbados.
"All debts and funeral expenses to be paid by selling my plate which I purchased from
my dear Mr. Alleyne's creditors." To son John Gay Alleyne, to son-in-law Charles
Knowles Esq. and to daughter Mary Knowles his wife, and daughter Rebecca Alleyne,
mourning. To daughter Mary Knowles diamond earings. To daughter Rebecca, negro wench
Peggy, also all my finger rings and half my wearing apparel. The other half with 5 pounds
to faithful servant Sarah Dix. Money now at interest in the hands of friend and relation
Tobias Frere Esq. be kept in his hands until son John Gay Alleyne attains his age of 21
years. Bequeath one quarter part thereof to son-in-law Charles Knowles and my daughter
mary his wife and their heirs. Another one quarter part to daughter Rebecca. To son John
Gay Alleyne the place in Gloucestershire called Langley and all rest and residue of
estate. Recommends son John Gay Alleyne to care of worthy friend and relation Sir Mark
Pleydel. Daughter Rebecca Alleyne recommended to care of her brother-in-law and sister
(Capt. Charles Knowles and Mary Alleyne Knowles) Negro man Harry and old negro woman
named Pothena not to be sold but to be cared for by children.
Executors: Friend and relation Sir Mark Pleydel, son-in-law Charles Knowles Esq., my
brother Joseph Terrill Esq., friend and relation Tobias Frere Esq. Signed Mary Alleyne.
